What I’d tell you about traveling to Seoul for aesthetic treatments, if I wasn’t afraid to hurt your feelings

It feels like everyone is visiting Korea right now, tagging clinics, and talking about their treatments.

I’m always so curious to see official visitor data, but what’s already obvious on the ground is this: information is being misrepresented, I’m seeing so many undisclosed sponsored treatments, and stories are getting exaggerated for views.

The mess of “Korea skincare content” is only getting harder to navigate. So, it’s time for some real talk, and I’m not afraid to hurt your feelings. I’m more concerned about making sure you don’t get physically hurt.

And this is just part one.

Scrolling tik-tok is not Research

Korea has very strict advertising laws.

Clinics can’t even technically show before & afters because similar results can’t be guaranteed. With foreigner influencers, the jurisdiction gets blurry and the loopholes are easy to exploit. The result is a flood of undisclosed gifted treatments, sponsorships, and quite a lot of misinformation.

You never really know what’s an ad, filtered, or exaggerated for views but if someone says “a friend told me about this clinic,” my b.s. radar goes off.

There are even agencies in Seoul that connect wanna-be influencers with newer clinics, usually with inexperienced doctors, looking for publicity. Sadly the barrier to entry is very low, sometimes not even 1K followers needed. This is why your feed is flooded with twenty-somethings getting “9 treatments in one day” talking about how pretty a clinic’s waiting room is instead of their non-existent results.

I said what I said.

Research Starts in the Mirror

Figure out what you want to change.

It could be refining pores, softening dynamic wrinkles starting to set in, addressing scarring or uneven texture, or treating pigmentation. Maybe it’s something more structural, a bleph, a neck lift, a contour change.

Whatever it is, be clear about what you actually want to change and start there.

That’s how you focus your research. Otherwise, you’ll end up spiraling Reddit rabbit- holes and wondering if the tiktok Doc is actually qualified. Whether it’s non-invasive or full-scale surgery, aesthetic treatments are elective and entirely your choice. So you need to be confident in your goal, then focus on finding the right path to get there.

Friendly reminder: Don’t forget what real skin looks like, and be kind to yourself.

“Stem-cell” Reality Check

The Advanced Regenerative Bio Act was updated in February 2025.

South Korea made significant updates to it’s stem cell and regenerative medicine regulations under the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act in February 2025.

That’s why you’re suddenly seeing blood-derived stem cell I.V. everywhere. Not because they were “gate-kept by wealthy Koreans”, (yes, people are saying this) but because they’re newly allowed in aesthetic settings.

If it’s something you’re curious about, do your research on the difference between Blood-derived stem cells vs Adipose-derived stem cells, which, are richer in regenerative cells and typically used locally for repair and rejuvenation. Also understand the difference between live or cultured stem cells and what is pulled from your blood.

Also keep in mind, it’s still very new to aesthetic clinics so the doctor administering it hasn’t seen real long-term outcomes yet.

The ultimate reality check, compare the cost of a standard PRP treatment where you live with the price of “stem cell” IVs or injections offered in Seoul.

A Digital Skin Analysis is used for Sales, not Diagnostics

Hate to burst your bubble.

Don’t get me wrong, It’s fun to see what your “skin age” is or compare your results to your friend’s. But these are not diagnostic tools and you should not be concerned in the slightest if your doctor doesn’t use one.

I’ve seen the back-end software of these things. Once you understand that they can be calibrated to sway certain ways, you see nothing but smoke and mirrors.

This is why you can get them done for free at Olive Young. I mean, there’s even a convenience store in Insa-dong with a machine that gives you a score based on facial size and symmetry.

The best doctors look at your skin, touch your skin and leverage their years of human expertise to give you a real evaluation.

You Don’t Want to Go “Where the Locals Go”

It’s a little bit of a Goldie Locks situation

You don’t want to go to the tourist trap factory clinics, but the answer is not trying to find clinics where the locals go.

Why?

Because you’re not a local.

This is especially true if you don’t have Korean skin. Many doctors really only have experience with Korean skin, facial structure, and aesthetic preference. Plus, many clinics are accustomed to a korean demographic: up to speed on aesthetic treatments, doesn’t have a ton of questions, and wants to get in and out as fast as possible.

빨리 빨리 (Pali Pali) culture is real.

This is where we come in. We’ll help you find a clinic and a doctor that not only has extensive experience, but experience and a positive reputation with your skin tone and facial structure. Because It matters.
